The Seven Deadly Sins were enumerated by the 13th-century Dominican friar St. Thomas Aquinas as manifestations of various vices. Put forth in Catholic doctrine, they served to regulate the moral conduct of the faithful. I believe they are equally applicable as a warning against the excessive desires of people in today's society, serving to restrain our behavior.
